Step on a Crack

It seemed innocent enough.  I decided to go to the library and take Brooklyn.  I put her leash on her and out the door we went for a walk that is only a little over a mile round trip.  The day was beautiful and we had the sidewalk to ourselves.  All was well.

Then I tripped on an uneven place on the walk and tried to do a face plant but was saved by a 3 point fall--two hands and one knee.  It was on a busy road but fortunately at the time, not many cars went by or at least that is what I think.  So that spared me some embarrassment.

I carefully got up (it isn't as if I could have sprung up if I had tried).  Brooklyn had not run off and I captured her leash without difficulty.  Then I recovered my shoe and bent to pick up my new, expensive sunglasses hoping they were not badly damaged and finally I managed to retrieve the book I was returning which had been flung the farthest.

I made it to the library dropbox and back home where Brooklyn collapsed on the cool wood floor and I collapsed into my favorite chair after drinking a large glass of water.  No bandages were required.  The fall scared me more than hurt me fortunately.  I always take my phone in case I need to call for help and this incident certainly has reinforced that habit.

My palms sting and at first I thought perhaps I had jarred my back as my arms were jacked back into the sockets but I think I will survive just fine!  Perhaps from now on, I'll be more attentive to the terrain.

All is well that ends well and I am well.

  1. OH! That's awful - poor you. Glad you're safe anyway. These things that come out of the blue are really distressing.

When I was on an outing with Mary Ann (of LA fame) I approached someone to ask directions and tripped over a tiny upstand of pavement. Didn't fall but stubbed my big toe. It wasn't actually too painful but the nail turned black and in the end I had to have the whole thing removed. So the souvenir of a lovely day out remained with me for months.

Take care and I hope you've got over the shock.
