I opened the back door to let the dog out. I THOUGHT this dog was here on a short visit but Monday will mark week 2, so perhaps not. Anyway, when I opened the door, I heard a lot of squawking. It would fade in and out and then more squawking joined the first. I looked to the sky but did not see anything, then they came into sight: dozens, hundreds of cranes. I grabbed my phone for some pics but the sun was so bright, all I could do was point, click and hope for the best!
These are all different groups of cranes They would join together and then separate. They are very loud and make a cooing/gurgling sound. I could hear them before they flew into sight.
Decided to draw some faces a la
Pam Carriker. I started using pencil but then decided to use Pan Pastels.

Then a few geese flew onto the page. I must work on these but I like the little guy wearing the Santa cap.
Hope your day was as good as mine. Evidently Brooklyn also had a good day because she is sound asleep now.
Do you think she is close enough to the fire?
XOXO,
Vicki
I really sat up when I saw your photos of the cranes! Twice a year I post news of them on my blog - but, having been away so much recently, we missed them. We hear them calling, even at night. Their flight path is directly over our village and it's a big event for us. Here's last year's post: http://chris.westcreations.eu/post/2011/11/15/Just-my-luck!
ReplyDeleteIsn't that something - to know they fly so straight and know just where they're going (in our case from Russia to Africa)?
