Renewed Dedication

I have finally come to the conclusion that I really want to improve as an artist.  I will not be sticking to only one area of art but then again, there are some things that I do not think I'll be doing.  What am I ruling out?  Quilting.  It is a beautiful art and can be functional but I don't see that happening in my studio.  Hmmm what else?  Probably jewelry making.  I love jewelry especially unusual pieces but I don't see that on my horizon either.  So, I guess, for the time being, I will stick with paints, pencils, stamps (I would like to make them), stencils (I would like to make them also), and various papers.  As I said--for now.

So how to achieve that goal?  I am starting with two hours a day for art.  Not a huge amount of time but an achievable goal.  So far it is working pretty good.  Okay it has only been 2 days and I haven't done much today but I had laser surgery this morning so my eyes were dilated AND the day is not over so it is still possible to meet that goal!

Previously I worked on cleaning out and arranging my studio.  Actually I feel uncomfortable using that word and I usually call it my work room.

Some before pics--oops, I don't actually have any before pics.  But here are some DURING pics.  I emptied out a 6 foot closet that had 4 shelves crammed with stuff.  Some of it was art supplies and some way not.  It filled the kitchen and dining room. And lots of it never left the work room!

Ah...an almost clean space to arrange.

Notice below how it is filling up. I am beginning at this point to worry about the necessary items fitting back in.

More stuff has been added... and  I even labeled boxes!!

My work space.  This still needs attention but it is getting better.

And finally--one drawing from my practice tablet. I generally only draw faces so this was out of my comfort zone.

I do not think it has rained today for the first time in MANY days.  A leak developed in my new bathroom which I hope will be repaired tomorrow.

One more thing Pam Carriker is giving away one of her classes and if you are interested, you need to sign up NOW.  I have enjoyed her art for several years so actually I am hoping to win the prize spot myself!  Even if you aren't interested in the class, you might enjoy seeing some of the work her previous students did.  Click here for Pam's page.

  1. I like your plan. I should try that myself. If only getting to the studio were easier (whine whine).
It did rain yesterday. Maybe not at your house-it had to end somewhere

  2. Great studio! It looks huge. I'm a bit of a Mrs Tidy myself so I applaud your neat shelves.

And that is a very good drawing there. Did you draw it from life?
