Asheville

Greeting from Asheville, NC.  I am here visiting a teacher friend from when we both taught in Lexington, SC.  It is so nice to be able to spend some time together.  Asheville has great restaurants and, of course, lots and lots of art of every type.  On top of that the scenery is gorgeous.  So now I have to get my camera clicking....

First things first: out to eat at Early Girl Eatery.  We walked through the screened door to enter and along the side of the kitchen to get to the dining area.  The tables were covered with brown paper and only when I was leaving did I notice the two bulletin boards filled with drawings people had made on the paper.  What fun!

I love this logo
I never get an appetizer when I eat out but we did tonight! Hummus, guacamole, pimento cheese, fruit and crunchy toasty bits. Very good.
Scott enjoying the appetizer!

I had a tempeh Rueben sandwich and he had trout.
 My sammy was delicious

Later we walked around Asheville until the weather shifted and it appeared rain was soon to follow.

One of the many musicians busking.  This young man was also playing the pipe right before I got the picture (my timing is rarely good!). I was happy to see some larger bills in his jar when I slipped in my contribution.

After we headed for the a scenic drive in the mountains, the rain started and the fog somewhat obscured the scenery. I still liked the misty quality of view

The Blue Ridge Parkway

The previous night we visited a friend of his and I was wowed by the metal art in her yard.  She also had a wonderful statue of a horse on his hind legs which required a crane to load and a beautiful koi pond.
This is NOT the horse that required a crane! He stands near the driveway along with the yellow flower.

Nearer the front door this bird was in constant flight.

I wish I had gotten more pictures as there were other sculptures that I didn't even see until we were leaving.  However I MAY have been distracted by the 7 dogs.  I was the only person there who didn't bring at least one dog so there was much scampering and a few fusses among the canines.  All the pooches seemed to have a good time and I'm sure they all slept well that night!

I would love the hear from you.  So if you wish to leave a comment, I stole the following instructions from my sister at http://tantivy.blogspot.com. I hope this will be a help.

  1. Asheville is such a great place and visiting with Scott was a lot of fun, I know. I am blown away by the sculptures. Did she make them or purchase and support other artists-either way is good and Asheville is a good place to do either. I would like to get another massage and facial there, too!
