In the Nick of Time

This autumn has been glorious and of special beauty has been a maple tree right beside the Bijou. I got pictures about two days ago and it was just in the nick of time.  Yesterday the wind did its work on defoliating the trees and today the rain managed to get the remaining leaves. Unfortunately my photographs do not do justice to the view.

The Bijou
I made some discoveries in my workroom:
1.  Moving stuff from one place to another does not actually increase the size of the room.
2.  Getting rid of unnecessary stuff frees up space for more frequently used items.
3.  Having a comfortable chair in the workroom to just sit is wonderful.
4.  Making myself work some every day enables me to get much more accomplished.

What? You already knew these truths?

So here is my progress of the past few days.  I don't know how this will develop but here is the progression so far.

Left: The pour and some lines

Right: A color wash of is added

Left: Several stamps are added

Right: Transfers of vintage postcards and photo- graphs are added--this is a close up of a postcard

My progress so far.

It seemed that I needed a break from the above project so I drew this guy to grace the cover on a sketch book.  I used watercolor pencils.  I love those things!

As always, I would love to hear from you.  There is some info below that may help you to leave a comment or you may email me at vickistyons@me.com

XOXO

My sister figured out how you can leave a comment. Write your comment, and sign it with your name (first is enough, I know who you are). Then choose "anonymous" at the bottom of the list of ways to comment. Then choose "publish." If you have ever had a google account you can use it if you can remember your user name and password. I hope that this works for you.

Notes from the Bijou

The Bijou

My sister started a blog and I simply cannot be left behind!  My idea is to share whatever I am doing in an effort to make me get busy!  It is also a way to interact with people so I would enjoy your input.  I will be posting some of my art and your critique is welcomed and remember this: I can't improve without constructive comments--my son who is an animator has been surprised with the thickness of my skin!  Being new to the joy of art, I need all the help I can get.

The Bijou is my little house and you will be seeing some improvements which have already been made but not photographed and, I hope, some other improvements that are yet to be made.  I call it The Bijou because it is a little jewel--at least to me.

My son says that people tend to draw faces that look like them.  His girlfriend says this picture qualifies. My eyes are not blue and my hair is not quite so spiked or red and my face certainly is not that young!!  However I look forward to doing something to this digitally.  I love lots of layers.

On the agenda for tomorrow (and it will be a miracle if I actually get this done) is to finish this painting.

The Callas

This is a bit out of perspective and a bit more work has been done on it since this photograph.  It will be fun to see how it ends up.  The name is a working name so feel free to make a suggestion.

Okay, please let me hear from you. It doesn't have to be about this blog.
